Lateral Suture Technique

The lateral suture technique helps to provide greater stabilization and better movement in the knee joint for dogs suffering from a torn cranial cruciate ligament (CCL). We place a strong monofilament suture starting from the lateral fabella (this is a small bone adjacent to the femur) and bring it all the way down to the tibial crest.

The lateral suture technique limits cranial translation of the tibia relative to the femur and maintains normal range of motion in the knee. This technique is ideal for dogs that are less than 30-40 lbs.
